Your bio…
What do you think it is?
What we ask ourselves:
- Am I supposed to list my credentials?
- Am I supposed to tell people about all of the tools and modalities I use?
- Am I supposed to “brag” about myself?
- How much do I share about my story?
- Do I tell them about what I offer and how I get results?
- Do I share all the great results I’ve gotten and what I’m good at?
What the heck is a bio meant to convey anyway?
If you don’t like to write, or have trouble talking about your work, what do you do then?
Mostly you procrastinate, write something you don’t like, flounder, panic, resist (complain — admit it, that’s what we do when we are afraid), and come up with something that will suffice; something to fill the space on your website because you HAVE to.
But what if your bio was this instead…
A place where you get to talk about yourself and your LOVE of what you do.
What if it could be an expression of your heart, your passion, and an opportunity to share with anyone and everyone that you LOVE and believe in the work that you do?
For many of us this is a huge roadblock…
But it can be beautiful, liberating, thrilling, inspiring, and uplifting.
I can show you how.
Crafting a new and meaningful bio is just one of the things I’ll take you through in the upcoming Words Matter online workshop and I hope you’ll take the leap and join us.
I know that this part in particular is going to help clarify your purpose and spark a renewed passion in what you do…There’s no other outcome possible.
And it’s going to be FREAKING AWESOME!

Number One Most Important Thing in Your Bio
Lead with your heart.
Don’t bury it in the details of WHAT you do. Most people won’t understand anyway. But they WILL feel your heart and your story.
- What stirs you?
- What does movement mean to you?
- What has changed your life?
- WHY do you do what you do and why should we care about your passion?
- What do you believe?!
- What means the most to you about being a teacher?
Tell your heart’s story!
Don’t hold back!
Be bold and brave and trust that you will be seen and received and people will know you for who you are not WHAT you do.
What you do is important, but it’s NOT why most people come your way and STAY.
This is the truth. Not a theory. Most people come and stay because of who you are. That’s the nature of what we do.
So, if you don’t get to share that with them immediately THEY are missing out on knowing YOU. And if they’re missing out in knowing you they may not come.
Here’s how my bio starts:
“What greater, more humbling journey is there than to be a teacher? Outside of being a parent, I can’t think of one. Teaching not only demands paying attention with your whole being, but that you reflect, grow and investigate beyond what the non-teacher may be willing to endure. It is a life of humility, curiosity, learning and missteps, but one that nothing else matches. If what I have gleaned from the amazing teachers I’ve known can be shared, I hope it is of as much value as it has been to me.”
You can read the whole thing here if you’d like, but I think this helps you get the picture.
Does your bio start with words from your heart?
I’m betting it could. Let’s do it! Together!
