Workshops + Live Events

Things you can actually do in real time.

Come to me or I’ll come to you.

Check out the current list of workshops I’m teaching and visit the bottom of the page if you are interested in bringing me to you. I love to travel and will pretty much go anywhere to teach. Some people would say I’m “easy”, but I try to keep that to a minimum. I like to say I’m malleable and love what I do!

Fearless Extension

Absolute Pilates
Mechanicsburg, PA
Sunday, April 23rd  10 am – 5 pm

Empower yourself and your students to embrace rather than fear spinal extension. Explore how some of our favorite cues and techniques for ensuring “safe” spinal extension are potentially limiting healthy movement in the pelvis, hip, sacroiliac joints and lumbar spine and how, with a more subtle understanding of where and how extension begins and develops, you can foster greater mobility, stability, and freedom in this beautiful movement.

Concepts & Techniques:swanreformer

  • Soft tissue release and integration techniques;
  • Bony rhythms and interplay in the hip, SI joints, and lumbar spine;
  • The role of sacral nutation in initiating extension;
  • The role of the multifidus and other key muscles in sacral nutation;
  • The role of the foot and the lower chain in healthy extension — joint-by-joint analysis based on the work of Gray Cook.

Objectives:

  • To shift from a fear-based extension perspective to one that promotes deeper levels of strength and potential in a safe and thoughtful way;
  • How to promote healthy function in the sacroiliac joints even when imbalances are present;
  • Learn how ORGANIZATION and INITIATION of extension are critical so that we are working with the body rather than against it.
  • Learn how changing the apex of the curve can make all the difference;
  • Learn the steps to take to help students develop healthy local extension as well as gross overall balanced extension of the spine;
  • Learn tools that you can integrate to engage, challenge and motivate your students to LOVE extension.

Cost: Registration Deadline – March 3rd, 2017. (No early bird rate.)

  • $250/1 workshop
  • $450/both

North Carolina

Fearless Extension

EVOLVE Movement
Raleigh, North Carolina
Saturday, April 29th 12 pm – 6:30 pm

Never be afraid to promote and develop spinal extension in students with low back and neck pain again!

Most of us have been taught to “protect” the lower back at all costs. We’ve gotten supremely good at teaching students how to engage their lower abdominals to support (flex) their lumbar spines — all in an attempt to reduce pain and ensure safe movement. This approach, however, is proving to not only be insufficient, but detrimental to our students’ long term success.teachingfearlessext

We will examine the consequences of this well-intended overcorrection and explore how we can better support the body by teaching it how to extend well/efficiently in a variety of positions and dynamic situations. We will focus on learning how to organize and initiate extension using hands-on manual techniques and specific cueing that is appropriate for all kinds of bodies including those with chronic and acute issues such as fusions, SI joint dysfunction, sciatica and scoliosis.

The technique you’ll learn will help you move out of a fear-based perspective and allow you to promote greater potential both in active extension as well as back body activation and integration in general.

In this workshop you will:

  • Explore, review and relearn pivotal spinal anatomy;
  • Learn a different way of extending the spine based on changing the apex of the curve, point of initiation, and preparing the different segments of the spine through a variety of alternative movement methods.
  • Learn the steps to take to help students develop healthy local extension as well as gross overall balanced extension of the spine;
  • Learn tools that you can integrate to engage, challenge and motivate your students to LOVE extension.

Osteoporosis & Scoliosis Unraveled

EVOLVE Movement
Raleigh, North Carolina
Sunday, April 30th 12 pm – 6:30 pm

A unique approach to working with osteoporosis and scoliosis that doesn’t require you to have a degree in physical therapy or become an expert in either of these complex conditions. In this workshop we will focus on using the repertoire you already know to simply and in a very focused way assess, plan, and progress your students so that they get the most out of every session and reach their FULL POTENTIAL!

You will not only learn the most straight-forward protocols that you can use consistently and with great success, but you will learn how to be more SKILLFUL in how you APPLY your knowledge so you never feel unsure or unprepared when working with scoliotic and osteoporotic students again.

In this workshop you will learn:skeletonimage1_opt

  • The three most important rules to ALWAYS follow when assessing your students needs in real-time, within a session or class, that will also dictate short- and long-term programming.
  • A step-by-step approach to progress your scoliotic and osteoporotic students to greater levels of challenge while attending to their specific needs.
  • How to NOT isolate them or make them feel weak or incapable, but instead strong, motivated, and challenged.
  • Simple, straightforward strategies to keep your scoliotic and osteoporotic students safe in a group class environment:
  • Go-to modifications and variations that will continue to push them and make them feel included and working hard.
  • And understand these two conditions so you can make on-the-spot adjustments and intelligent planning decisions that optimize your students’ experience EVERY TIME!
